Keith Building

I am pleased to announce that Wayne State University has selected an architectural firm to prepare the designs for the Damon J. Keith Classroom Building and Center for Civil Rights, DSA. These designs will greatly assist us as we continue fundraising on this important project.

An Ad Hoc Initial Design Phase Committee worked this summer to consider all of the architectural firms that responded to a Request for Proposals (RFP), selecting from eleven candidates a total of four finalists. The Committee interviewed all four finalists in person, and then I made recommendations to the central administration. The firm that has been selected, DSA, is Detroit-based, and part of SHW Group, a national firm. It has expertise in higher education buildings. Among its projects is our current “new building,” completed in 2000 at a cost of $17.8 million. Their website is http://www.dsa.shwgroup.com/.

As I have previously stated, we expect to convene a series of stakeholder meetings with DSA. These will start in December 2006 or shortly thereafter. Thank you very much.
